Jodi Mikalachki

Jodi Mikalachki is Associate Professor of English at the University of Burundi in Bujumbura, where she worships with the Dominican community of Couvent St Thomas d’Aquin. A graduate of the University of Toronto, she earned an interdisciplinary doctorate at Yale University, going on to serve in the United States, South Africa, Kenya, and Burundi. 

She has published extensively on gender and nationalism in literature. Her most recent work focuses on moral and spiritual responses to political violence in contemporary Burundi, and has appeared in The Journal of Global Catholicism, Concilium, and Religions. 

She is currently writing a novel that explores cross-cultural relations between Burundians and Canadian missionaries in the early decades of Burundian independence.
